“Fretwork” Collection - European traces contrasting places, a display of lighting and furniture

For the first time, Triqis Studios opens its doors during London Design Festival to present a new collection of furniture and lighting, inspired by the Victorian Gingerbread houses of Trinidad's Port-of-Spain, titled 'Fret' – European traces contrasting places.

In the 1920s, Port of Spain, the capital of Trinidad and Tobago witnessed a remarkable peak in its architectural evolution. The city's landscape was a fusion of styles spanning decades, with wooden structures influenced by French and British rule, that left an indelible mark on the city, extending well into the 1950s. "Gingerbread" houses distinguished by their Victorian Fretwork, and intricate patterns adorned facades, furniture, and interiors alike dotted the neighbourhoods.

Crafted with meticulous care, these designs were once painstakingly created by hand saws before the advent of electrical tools in the 1920s. Symbolising wealth and reverence for detail, fretwork became synonymous with the era's architectural elegance.

The "Fretwork" collection by Kwaku Boateng and Erwan Le Bozec presents a range of extraordinary lighting and furniture pieces inspired by gingerbread houses, mesmerising structures that captivated Boateng during his childhood chapter spent residing and exploring the twin isle.
